"Sacrifice. To some, it is just a word. To others it is a code. A soldier knows that the life of an individual ant doesn't matter. What matters is the Colony. He's willing to live for the Colony. To fight for the Colony. To die for the Colony. At 0800 hours we received word that the Termite enemy has mobilized. We have no choice but to launch a preemptive strike. You are the Queen's finest. I know you will all do your duty. I am proud to send you into battle. Dismissed."
General Mandible is a militaristic ant who leads the soldiers. He feels a disgust toward worker ants, claiming they lack discipline and respect. For that reason he attempts to drown all the worker ants. He was engaged to be married to Princess Bala although she did not want to marry him, feeling he was too stiff. It is unknown if he fought in wars or not but it is assumed so because he is given the position of General. He has strong feelings about the good of the Colony, and he even enforced the rule that individualism is meaningless, and only conformists will be rewarded. Mandible serves as the primary antagonist of the film.
He seeks to marry Princess Bala, making her his queenand the mother of thousands of larval children. However, those plans are foiled for good when he is killed at the end of the film.
He is voiced by Gene Hackman, who also played Lex Luthor in the superman flims
The Termite WarEdit Edit
In order to prevent anyone resisting him in his rise to power, General Mandible sent all legions loyal to the Queen to their deaths by sending them to attack a termite colony. Colonel Cutter even said that attacking a termite colony was suicide. General Mandible did not feel any remorse about sending thousands of his fellow ants to their doom, showing that he feels little remorse for anyone that isn't loyal to him.
The Flooding of Mega TunnelEdit Edit
The final stage of Mandible's plan was to drown all the workers of the colony in the Mega Tunnel so he could fill it with powerful soldier ants. He had the workers dig to a lake so that the tunnel would flood and kill them all. He sealed off all exits so that none would escape. But the workers escaped by building a large ladder completely made of ants. Z dug his way out of the tunnel after reaching the ceiling but was nearly killed by General Mandible. But before Mandible could kill Z Colonel Cutter interfered and punched General Mandible. Mandible by now, had gone mad with power, screaming, "I am the Colony!" and charging Cutter. However, Z, who had been helped out of the tunnel by Cutter, pushed Cutter out of the way and was knocked back into the tunnel by General Mandible.
Mandible died after a fall into the tunnel. Unlike Z, who landed in the water, Mandible landed on a tree root. He died on impact. After his death Colonel Cutter assumed command and saved the worker ants.
